Born in England, Matt followed a girlfriend to Australia in 1993, was promptly broken up with, and found himself as the world’s number one correspondent on Australian soaps (think Neighbours and Home and Away) with the benefit of time zones allowing him to stay ahead of the game.
Matt began writing food reviews in the late 90’s, and his profile as a highly regarded food critic was established in 2000 with his appointment at The Age.
Working as a senior editor for Vogue Entertaining and Travel, as well as delicious., Matt was writing for a plethora of publications. He was also creative director of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
In 2009, Matt’s world changed completely when he was appointed as a judge of MasterChef Australia.
In just its first season, MasterChef Australia was one of the most watched broadcasts that year, with over 4.11 million people tuning in to watch the finale.
Matt remained as a judge on MasterChef for 11 seasons, which also included Celebrity MasterChef, Junior MasterChef and MasterChef Australia: The Professional.
In his downtime, Matt published 8 best-selling cookbooks, hosted breakfast on Saturday Morning ABC radio, competed on Dancing With The Stars, published his memoir, and appeared on SBS’s The Hospital: In The Deep End.
