Michael Klim

International Swimming Hall of Fame legend Michael Klim is not just one of Australia’s greatest Olympians, he’s also considered to be the world’s best relay swimmer.

Michael emerged on the world stage after winning a bronze medal in his first Olympic appearance in the 1996 Atlanta Games and continued his rise in 1997 when he broke the world record in the 100m butterfly.

In 1997, Michael was awarded the World Swimmer of the Year at the age of 20. At the 1998 FINA World Championships in Perth, Michael’s record haul of seven medals in seven events, including four gold, is one of the most outstanding performances by an Australian at an international swim meet.

The 2000 Sydney Olympic Games saw Michael star, winning two gold and two silver medals.

After a two-year break from swimming, prompted by injury, Michael returned to swimming during the 2004 Athens Games.

In 2020, Michael was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Nowadays, Michael enjoys spending quality time with his partner and three children Stella, Rocco and Frankie.
