Hugo Toovey grew up in Adelaide, and often found himself relating to the stereotypical stoic example of masculinity. This included the “she’ll be right” attitude about his health.
After neglecting a lump in his testicle for 6 months, Hugo was diagnosed with testicular cancer which had spread throughout his body. He was 21 years old.
Finally receiving the holy grail 5-year-clean-scan, and officially being declared cancer free, Hugo began to experience gut issues, and having learnt the hard lesson, wen to get it checked out.
Hugo was diagnosed with aggressive bowel cancer, but this time, had caught it early.
After undergoing over 10 major surgeries, numerous complications and stays in hospitals, Hugo is again cancer free.
Hugo founded the charity 25 Stay Alive in 2023, which blends his personal journey with practical tools to help people take charge of their health through the promotion of early detection.
